Daniel 11 – Part II – Fight or be Defeated – The Battle Rages on and Continues until the Return of Christ

“At the end time the king of the South will collide with him, and the king of the North will storm against him with chariots, with horsemen and with many ships; and he will enter countries, overflow them and pass through. He will also enter the Beautiful Land, and many countries will fall; but these will be rescued out of his hand: Edom, Moab and the foremost of the sons of Ammon. Then he will stretch out his hand against other countries, and the land of Egypt will not escape. But he will gain control over the hidden treasures of gold and silver and over all the precious things of Egypt; and Libyans and Ethiopians will follow at his heels. But rumors from the East and from the North will disturb him, and he will go forth with great wrath to destroy and annihilate many. He will pitch the tents of his royal pavilion between the seas and the beautiful Holy Mountain; yet he will come to his end, and no one will help him.” (Dan. 11:40-45)

“He will pitch the tents of his royal pavilion between the seas and the beautiful Holy Mountain; yet he will come to his end, and no one will help him.” (Dan. 11:45) [“Having broken his covenant with the Jews, he will become their persecutor and make Jerusalem his headquarters.  But he will meet his end with the armies of earth who gather at Armageddon. My friend Steve Griffith who has written extensively on end times (http://revelationalive.net/understandendtimes.html) has helped me put together the prophecies in Daniel 11 with many other end times prophecies, and especially with Revelation. Here are his views and comments: [“Once the Antichrist enters the Jerusalem temple to declare himself to be God, believing Jews throughout the country will flee to the moun¬tains of Is¬rael (Matt. 24:15-16) and Jordan (Dan. 11:41).  Israel—having been protected for three and a half years from her Islamic enemies by the An¬tichrist’s military muscle—now becomes the target of that military mus¬cle.  Indeed, most Jews in Israel who don’t flee to the mountains when the Antichrist desecrates the temple will quickly be slaughtered by the Anti¬christ’s armies. In my view, Dan. 11:40-43 correlates with the 2nd through 4th Seal judgments in Rev. 6. Dan. 11:44 correlates with the 6th Trumpet (a Sino-Western or Sino-Russo-Western nuclear holocaust in my opinion, with the “rumors from the north” in Dan. 11:44 being Russia and the “rumors from the east” being China). Dan. 11:45 correlates with the Battle of Armageddon (in Israel) after the bodily return of Christ. It is my view that in Dan. 11:40-43 the king of the North and the king of the South are Syria and Egypt specifically, but more generally point to and include the Islamic nations north and south of Israel–indeed all the Islamic nations which surround Israel. I see Dan. 11:40-43 taking place over a period of about eighteen months, from the mid-point of the Tribulation until about the end of the fifth year. I see Dan. 11:44 taking place about six years into the Tribulation (for perhaps six months). Because I believe most of the Antichrist’s Empire will be destroyed at the 6th Trumpet about six years into the Tribulation, I do not see him fighting the kings of the north, south and east when Jesus returns. The Antichrist and a remnant of his army will be in Israel from the sixth to seventh year, but I don’t see them fighting the others. Because of the ferocity of the Seal and Trumpet judgments (including a massive worldwide earthquake, the sting of a scorpion on unbelievers for five months, and the death of one-half of the earth’s population), I don’t see much fighting during the final six to nine months of the Tribulation. Instead, men will face the Bowl judgments, and then (during the final month of the Tribulation) will gather from throughout the earth into Israel with the foolish dream of annihilating the Jews once and for all.

The collaboration of all the nations against the Jews could be precipitated by God’s sudden destruction of Babylon, the Antichrist empire, and all the nations that “have drunk of the wine of the passion of her immorality, and the kings of the earth have committed acts of immorality with her, and the merchants of the earth have become rich by the wealth of her sensuality.” (Rev. 18:3) Then all the godless of all nations will blame the Jews for this (especially since God is supernaturally protecting the remnant of the Jews who have turned to Christ – Rev. 12:13-17) “The merchants of these things, who became rich from her, will stand at a distance because of the fear of her torment, weeping and mourning, saying, ‘Woe, woe, the great city, she who was clothed in fine linen and purple and scarlet, and adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls; for in one hour (suddenly) such great wealth has been laid waste!’ And every shipmaster and every passenger and sailor, and as many as make their living by the sea, stood at a distance,  and were crying out as they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, ‘What city is like the great city?’ And they threw dust on their heads and were crying out, weeping and mourning, saying, ‘Woe, woe, the great city, in which all who had ships at sea became rich by her wealth, for in one hour she has been laid waste!’ Rejoice over her, O heaven, and you saints and apostles and prophets, because God has pronounced judgment for you against her.” (Rev. 18:15-20)”]

Future Deliverance for Jerusalem   “This message concerning the fate of Israel came from the LORD: “This message is from the LORD, who stretched out the heavens, laid the foundations of the earth, and formed the human spirit. I will make Jerusalem like an intoxicating drink that makes the nearby nations stagger when they send their armies to besiege Jerusalem and Judah.  On that day I will make Jerusalem an immovable rock. All the nations will gather against it to try to move it, but they will only hurt themselves. “On that day,” says the LORD, “I will cause every horse to panic and every rider to lose his nerve. I will watch over the people of Judah, but I will blind all the horses of their enemies. And the clans of Judah will say to themselves, ‘The people of Jerusalem have found strength in the LORD of Heaven’s Armies, their God.’” (Zech. 12:1-5; See Rev. 17:11-14; 19:11-21)

[“There was a ship in a violent stormy sea. The ship was driven against the rocks. Any moment it might be dashed to pieces. The passengers in the ship were huddled together in terror, facing inevitable death. In the agony of that moment, one of the men said, “I’m going up to the pilot and I’m going to see the pilot.” He made his way up and up and up and finally came to the pilot’s house. And there he found the pilot chained to his post, with his hands on the wheel, guiding little by little, turning little by little away from the rocks and out into the deep of an open sea. Robert Lewis Stevenson wrote that when the pilot saw the intruder and looked at his terror-stricken, white face, the pilot looked at him and smiled. The man turned around, said Stevenson, went back to the deck below and shouted. “All is well, all is well. I saw the pilot’s face and he smiled.” Robert Louis Stevenson.]

“All is well, all is well. I saw the pilot’s face and he smiled.” We are called by God to live with the end in mind and that includes the increasing darkness and evil that will (and is already) coming upon the world. And in the midst of it we must know (from knowing God’s character and the prophetic Scriptures that show how He consummates this age (this “present evil age” – Gal. 1:4) that God is good and in control and will overrule every evil person (Antichrist included) and Satan to bring about every promise He has made to the Jewish nation (the saved national remnant) and to every believer – for our eternal good and His glory.

*[“The accuracy with which these approximately 135 specific prophecies have been fulfilled underscores God’s sovereignty and tells us to expect that the remaining prophecies will be fulfilled with the same precise and literal fulfillment in the future.

*The ironies of history; in spite of all Antiochus’ efforts to be a man of power and influence, his every action was playing out God’s prophetic plan.  He who tries to save his life will lose it.  God’s plans will be fulfilled, but we would be wise to cooperate with them now; in this way God is glorified and we are satisfied.  We will serve a god; “if it is disagreeable in your sight to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves today whom you will serve” (Josh. 24:15).

*We do not look for Antichrist, but for Jesus Christ.  He is the point of all prophecy, and our relationship to Him will determine our destiny.

*The purpose of tribulation in our lives; a refining and purging process.  Romans 5:3-5”]

QUESTIONS FOR DISCUSSION AND APPLICATION

1. We are called by God to live with the end in mind and that includes the increasing darkness and evil that will (and is already) coming upon the world. Read Zech. 12:1-5; 14:12; Rev.14:17-20 and Revelation 19:11-21. How are the armies gathered against Christ killed (Rev.19:21) and what is the lesson for us?

2. There is no being in the universe, man or demon, which can prevent God from transforming me into increasing Christ-likeness or usurp God’s loving plan for my life But Me. Self-pity and/or quick and prideful judgment of others (continually pointing the finger at others) keeps me from pointing the finger at myself. Nathan said to David, thou art the man! And David saw his sin and repented deeply. Each of us, as believers, will stand alone at the judgment seat of Christ. Today our thoughts, words and deeds are preparing us for that day. This is certainly true and hopefully a sobering and purifying truth. Please read Psalm 90:12 and 1 John 3:2-3 and share how this truth speaks to you.
